Penny Mapoma attends the United Nations Commission on the Status of women CSW60

The United Nations Commission on The Status of Women CSW60 ended in New York on the 24th March 2016 on a high note to reaffirm the importance of the role of women in the Global economy.

It was a great honor and privilege to be part of the Zambian delegation and to be present in various high level fora. The focus of the discussions centered on Empowerment of Women and Sustainable Development but also emphasized the role that men and boys have to play in advancing the cause.

For my country Zambia it brought to the fore that we still need to do a lot to get some of our fundamentals rights; education, health and access to finance to name a few but also the need for cultural mind shifts and a desire to access opportunities that can lead to empowerment.

For my organisation, ‪#‎NewFacesNewVoices in Zambia and across the continent, it is imperative that whatever work we are doing now and in the future aligns itself to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGS) and in particular SGD 5 for us to contribute our efforts and find our own space in the Women’s Empowerment agenda – Penelope Mapoma, Country Director.
